The client has an existing family home that was built in the 80’s, the home was in pretty good condition but the layout and design was dated.
The client wanted to modernize the facades as well as open the entire space up and make it more liveable.
The original home only had 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
The client wanted to expand the home and introduce another 2 bedrooms and give each bedroom in the house an en-suite bathroom.
The client was also limited in terms of entertaining space; so they asked us to relook at how we could marry the inside and the outside; and redefine the back yard as an entertainers haven. We decided to propose a pool house that wrapped around a renovated pool; and also link the home both visually and physically to the yard through opening glass panels, terraces, and balconies from bedrooms.
Satisfying a couple with different tastes and views is always a challenge. And to add to it, the existing home was dated and built rather close to the site boundary.
The design stage always take a lot more time on residential revamps as the project becomes a personal reflection of the client’s intermate needs.
We believe that the brief was eventually well-executed and that when the home renovation is complete- the client’s will enjoy it for years to come.
The brief was executed sensitively, keeping in mind that a family already lived in the home for years and already had defined personal space and everyday processes.
We had numerous meetings and interactions with the clients so that they always had our support and attentiveness. Residential clients almost always have a limited budget and a limited knowledge of a project; so it is of utmost importance that an architect supports and manages their expectations on a daily basis.
Communication is always key in a project, especially in a residential one.
