There was an unfortunate accident at the healthcare facility and parts of the pharmacy sustained some fire damage. It was important to the client to get it back up and running as soon as possible, so the design response to the brief had to take place very quickly within a very limited timeframe. Our proposal was accepted right after clean-up and demolition was completed, and construction commenced soon after – all within the span of one month.
The brief was simple: create a beautiful and efficient pharmacy, a pharmacy within budget that would encompass the goals of the business – to provide a sense of care and community. The client requested that the functioning sections of the pharmacy remain operational to service the needs of the hospital.
Over and above these constraints, the entire process had to be carried out seamlessly without any disruption to the hospital and patients. Additionally, many of the furniture items had to be custom designed and built due to the size and layout of the pharmacy.
Based on the brief it was decided to phase the project into two phases. We started with the Front of house; the main retail and dispensing section (107m²) which sustained the bulk of the damage. Once the front was completed and commissioned, construction and upgrades commenced in the Back of Pharmacy (90m² Bulk store and packing area).
